Stock Profit & Return Calculator
Find out what you actually keep after fees and taxes.
Sell price for a target return
How it works
Real profit = sale proceeds - purchase cost - buy fee - sell fee - tax on sale. The return is that profit divided by what you paid to buy (purchase cost plus the buy fee). Brokers may round fees differently, so expect tiny differences from your statement.

Frequently asked questions
How is the real profit on a stock trade calculated?
Real profit = sale proceeds - purchase cost - broker fee on the buy - broker fee on the sale - any tax or fee charged on the sale. The return percentage divides that profit by everything you spent to buy (purchase cost plus the buy fee).
What should I enter for the broker fee?
Use the commission your broker charges as a percentage of each trade. Many online brokers in the US and Europe charge 0% on stocks, while others charge around 0.05% to 0.25%. The fee is applied on both the buy and the sale. If your broker charges a flat fee per trade, convert it to a percentage of the trade value.
What goes in the "tax / fee on sale" field?
Anything charged only when you sell, such as a stamp duty or financial transaction tax, regulatory fees, or a currency conversion cost. It defaults to 0%. Capital gains tax is usually settled later on your annual return, so it is not included here.
What is the break-even price?
It is the lowest sale price per share at which you lose nothing after paying fees and taxes on both sides. With no fees it equals your purchase price; with fees it is slightly higher.
