Text Compare
Paste two versions of a text and see what was added and what was removed, highlighted in color. Nothing is sent to a server.
How it works
The tool lines up the two texts and finds the smallest set of additions and deletions that turns the original into the changed version. Added parts are shown in green, removed parts in red with a line through them, and everything else stays as it was. The summary shows how many characters were added and removed and roughly what share of the original changed.
Handy uses
- Edited essays and cover letters — see exactly what your editor or teacher changed.
- AI rewrites — check that a rewritten or paraphrased text did not change the meaning of the original.
- Contracts and terms — use "Lines" mode to spot clauses that were added or removed.
Need to check length too? The word counter counts words, characters and reading time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between word, character and line comparison?
"Words" highlights changes word by word, which is the easiest way to see how sentences were edited. "Characters" catches every single letter, including typos and punctuation. "Lines" compares whole lines, which works best for contracts, code, lists and data files.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser. Your text is kept only in this browser on this device so it survives a page refresh, and the Clear button removes it. It is safe to use for contracts, resumes and other private documents.
Can I ignore differences in spacing or capitalization?
Yes. Turn on "Ignore whitespace" to treat extra spaces and trailing spaces as the same, and "Ignore case" to treat uppercase and lowercase letters as equal.
Is there a size limit?
There is no fixed limit, but very long texts (hundreds of thousands of characters) can take a moment to compare, especially in character mode on a phone. If it feels slow, switch to line mode.
