How the GPA calculator works
Each course contributes quality points equal to its grade points times its credit hours. Your GPA is total quality points divided by total graded credits, so a 4-credit lab counts for more than a 1-credit seminar. Pass (P) and no-pass (NP) courses are left out of the GPA; passed credits still count toward the credits you have earned. Your courses are remembered in this browser only.

Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours to get quality points, add them up, then divide by the total credit hours. For a 3-credit A (4.0) and a 4-credit B+ (3.3): (3 x 4.0 + 4 x 3.3) / 7 = 25.2 / 7 = 3.60. Pass/fail courses earn credit but are left out of the GPA.
What is the difference between the 4.0 and 4.3 scales?
On the standard 4.0 scale an A+ is worth the same as an A (4.0), so 4.0 is the maximum. Some colleges reward an A+ with 4.3 points instead. Choose the scale your school uses; all other letter grades are worth the same on both.
How do I work out my cumulative GPA?
Enter your current cumulative GPA and the total credits it is based on in the optional fields, then add this term's courses. The calculator combines them, weighting each by credits, to show your new cumulative GPA.
Do F grades and retaken courses count?
An F is worth 0 points and its credits still count, so it pulls your GPA down. Many schools replace the old grade when you retake a course, but policies vary, so check your registrar's rules and simply leave the replaced grade out here if it no longer counts.
