Passport Photo Maker (free, no upload)

Pick a size and add a photo. It crops around your face automatically, checks the photo rules, changes the background, and makes a print-ready sheet you can take to any photo kiosk. Your photo never leaves this device.

How the face is positioned

When you add a photo, AI finds your face and places a crop box in the shape of the size you picked. A face detector box usually covers the forehead to the chin, so the top of the head is estimated at about half a face height above that to work out the full head height. For a 35×45 mm passport photo, the box is sized so the head fills about 76% of the photo height (34 mm of 45 mm) with 3–4 mm of space above the crown. Hair volume and head tilt can throw the estimate off, so fine-tune it by lining up the crown and chin with the two yellow dashed lines.

What the photo rule check looks at

After you add a photo, a traffic-light list appears: head size (inside the allowed range for the size you picked), centering, resolution, face brightness (too dark or glare) and sharpness (blur). It runs in your browser. Expression, glasses glare and shadows still need a human eye.

How to print at a photo kiosk or shop

The "4×6 print" file places several copies of the same photo on a single 4×6 in (10×15 cm) print. At a photo shop, a pharmacy or supermarket photo kiosk, or an online print service, choose 4×6 or 10×15 as the print size and print at original size, without "fit", "fill" or "auto crop". That way each photo comes out at exactly the right dimensions. Measure one with a ruler, then cut along the grey lines. If you use a home printer, turn on the A4 sheet and set the print scale to 100% (actual size).

What you still need to check yourself

This tool only sets the size and face position. It does not replace the official check. Passport photos usually have to be recent (taken within the last 6 months), face the camera, have a plain background, show your full face with no shadows or glare, and meet other rules. Always confirm the final requirements on your government's official passport or visa website. Photos with an edited background, or ones that break the rules, may be rejected.

If the upload form has a file size limit, use Compress Image to hit the KB target. To change just the background, use Remove Background. More tools are in Image Tools.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Face detection, background replacement and the print layout all happen inside the browser on your device. The first time you use it, the browser downloads Google's public AI model files (about 1MB for face detection and 16MB for person segmentation) plus the AI engine once, then reuses the saved copies after that.

Can I use a photo made here for my passport or visa application?

The tool sets the photo size and head height for you, but it cannot judge rules about expression, lighting, shadows, glasses glare or how recently the photo was taken (usually within the last 6 months). Some authorities do not accept photos with an edited background, so check your government's official photo rules and, if possible, take the photo in front of a plain white wall and keep the background "As is". The issuing office always makes the final decision.

How do I print it at a pharmacy, photo kiosk or photo shop?

Save the "4×6 print" file to your phone, then choose a 4×6 in (10×15 cm) print size at a photo kiosk, pharmacy photo counter or online print service. Turn off "fit", "fill" or "auto crop" and print at original size so each photo comes out at the exact dimensions. Measure one photo with a ruler after printing, then cut along the grey lines.

The background around my hair looks messy.

If your hair is a similar colour to the background or you have a lot of flyaway hair, the edge can be off. Retaking the photo in front of a plain, light wall gives the cleanest result. If the photo was already taken in front of a white wall, leaving the background "As is" usually looks more natural.

What size and file size is a US visa photo?

A printed US passport or visa photo is 2×2 inches (51×51 mm) with the head 1 to 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm) from chin to crown. For the online DS-160 upload the usual rule is a square JPG of 600×600 to 1200×1200 pixels, 240 KB or less. Pick "US passport & visa" and the tool makes a 600×600 px file and fits it under 240 KB. Glasses are not allowed.

Can I take a passport photo at home with my phone?

Many countries accept it if the photo is recent, sharp, evenly lit, taken against a plain light wall, and shows your full face looking straight at the camera. The UK does not accept photos changed with software, and Canada only accepts photos printed by a photo studio, so for those countries use this tool only to check size.

Can I wear glasses in a passport photo?

It depends on the country. US passport and visa photos do not allow glasses. China visa photos do not allow thick frames or tinted lenses. Elsewhere glasses are often allowed if there is no glare and the frames do not cover the eyes, but taking them off is the safest choice.

Are AI-edited or retouched photos accepted?

Usually not. Most passport offices reject photos where the face has been changed. This tool never changes your face or skin — it only crops, swaps the background and adjusts overall brightness — but some offices also reject edited backgrounds, so a photo taken against a white wall with the background left "As is" is safest.

How many photos fit on a 4×6 print?

With cutting margins, eight 35×45 mm photos or two 2×2 in photos fit on one 4×6 in (10×15 cm) print. Print the "4×6 print" file at original size with fit/fill/auto-crop turned off, then cut along the grey lines.

Can I make a LinkedIn profile photo?

Yes. Choose "LinkedIn / profile (square)" for a 1024×1024 px square with your face centered, and switch the background to white, grey or light blue. It does not generate new outfits or AI headshots.
