Compress Image to a Target Size
Add your photos, pick a target size, and get the best possible quality that still fits.

Why reduce image file size?
A single phone photo is usually 3–5MB. Job portals often want profile photos around 200KB, and many government, visa and school forms cap attachments at 500KB–1MB, so the original simply won't upload. Enter a target size and this tool tests lower quality levels until it finds the best quality that fits under the limit.
| Use | Typical limit | Suggested setting |
|---|---|---|
| Job application / CV photo | 100–300KB | 200KB · JPG |
| Visa, government or school forms | 500KB–1MB | 500KB · JPG |
| Blogs, websites, email | No limit (but slow) | 80% quality · JPG/WEBP |
| Logos and icons with transparency | — | WEBP or keep PNG |
If you need exact pixel dimensions, use Resize Image first; to cut a photo to an ID ratio, use Crop Image. More tools are in Image Tools.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress a photo to under 200KB?
Type 200 as the target size and press Compress. The tool lowers the quality step by step until it finds the best quality that still fits under 200KB. If quality alone is not enough, it also shrinks the width and height by 10% at a time. This is handy for job applications, visa forms and other online forms with an upload limit.
Will compressing make my photo look much worse?
Up to around 80% JPG quality, most people cannot see a difference. A typical phone photo (3–5MB) usually drops below 1MB just by saving it at 80% quality at the same size.
Can I compress PNG files?
PNG is a lossless format, so it has no quality setting. Choose "JPG" or "WEBP" as the output format to make it much smaller. If you keep PNG, the tool reduces the dimensions to hit your target. If you need a transparent background, pick WEBP.
Where are my photos uploaded?
Nowhere. Everything happens inside the browser on your own device, and no photo is ever sent to the CalcLab server. Once the page is open, it even works offline.
