Upscale Image
Enlarge small photos 2–4× while keeping jagged edges and blur to a minimum. Note: this is not generative AI that invents missing detail.

How far can you enlarge a photo?
Simply stretching a small image makes the pixels look blocky or turns the whole picture fuzzy. This tool uses Lanczos (lanczos3) resampling, which looks at many surrounding pixels to fill in each new one, then applies a light unsharp mask to crisp up the edges. The result has cleaner outlines and less bleeding around text than ordinary browser scaling.
To be honest, though, this is not a generative AI upscaler. It cannot "restore" a blurry face, tiny unreadable text or an out-of-focus shot. It only shows the information already in the original at a bigger size. It works best for reducing jagged edges when you print a photo or put it on a large screen.
| Situation | Suggested scale | Suggested settings |
|---|---|---|
| Enlarging a small logo or icon | 2–4× | Sharpen Medium · keep PNG |
| Printing an old phone photo | 2× | Sharpen Light + Reduce noise |
| Putting a screenshot into a document | 2× | Sharpen Medium |
| Restoring a blurry face or licence plate | — | Not possible with this tool |
The long side of the output is capped at 8000px, and the scale is lowered automatically if needed. Upscaled photos are larger files, so if the site you're uploading to has a limit, shrink it with Compress Image. For exact pixel dimensions, use Resize Image. More tools are in Image Tools.
Frequently asked questions
Will upscaling make a blurry photo sharp?
It will look a little better, but detail that was never captured cannot appear. This tool is not generative AI. It uses high-quality resampling (the Lanczos method), which carefully calculates the new pixels in between. That reduces jagged edges and mushiness, but it cannot redraw text or faces.
How large can I upscale an image?
You can choose 2×, 3× or 4×, and the long side of the result is capped at 8000px. If your choice would go over, the scale is lowered automatically and shown in the result. On iPhone and iPad the browser has less memory, so output is limited to about 16 megapixels (for example 4000×4000).
When should I use Sharpen and Reduce noise?
Enlarging softens edges a little, so leaving Sharpen on "Medium" is usually best. For grainy low-light shots or JPGs with blotchy compression artifacts, turn on Reduce noise as well. Using both too strongly can create white halos around edges.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. All the upscaling happens inside the browser on your device, and because this tool uses no AI model, there is nothing extra to download either.
