When should you merge PDFs?

Job applications, mortgage and loan paperwork, visa applications and school forms often ask you to "upload a single PDF". If your bank statements, pay stubs, ID scan and signed forms are all saved as separate files, drop them in here, put them in the order the instructions ask for, and press merge. The pages are copied over as they are, so text and signatures stay just as sharp, and you can still search and copy text like in the originals.

The same works when a scanned document has been split into several PDFs. If the order is confusing, the fastest fix is to add numbers like 01, 02 to the front of the file names and press "Sort by name". On a phone, you can pick several PDFs from your Files app or Downloads folder and merge them the same way.

The merged file is usually about the size of all the originals added together. Text-based PDFs sometimes come out a little smaller because they share fonts, but scanned, image-based PDFs barely shrink. If you go over an upload limit, run the result through Compress PDF or keep only the pages you really need.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the order of the PDFs?

Once you add your files, a numbered list appears. Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons on each row to move a file up or down, or press "Sort by name" to order everything by file name in one go. The files are joined in exactly the order shown in the list.

How many files, and how large, can I merge?

You can add up to 30 PDFs at once. There is no fixed size limit, but everything happens in your device's memory, so on a phone a combined file over about 200 MB may get slow or stall. If that happens, merge a few at a time and then merge the results together.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

PDFs that need a password to open can't be read, so they can't be merged. If a file shows a password warning in the list, open it in your PDF viewer with the password, use "Print → Save as PDF" to make an unlocked copy, and add that copy instead.

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. Reading and merging both happen inside your browser on this device, and the contents of your PDFs are never sent to the CalcLab server. It's safe to use for sensitive paperwork like bank statements, tax forms or contracts.
